I moved to the country, as in corn and soy fields, pick-up trucks, and self-made sleeveless tee shirts. Before the country, I lived in the city, a big city with a reddish-orange bridge that takes your breath every time you see it. I loved that city. It was in my bones. But there was a daughter (and a son that came later) and a husband and an oddly persistent urge to farm. So now there is an old farmhouse and a barn with pastures and woods. There is a lot of dirt. There are also animals and bees.

If I had to take a picnic basket to a desert island, it would probably have cream, figs, natto, and pecans (the little sweet kind).
